An early hydraulic gold miner operating a water nozzle, known as a monitor can be seen to the left of the Eagle. To the right you can see two prospectors, one swinging a pickax. 1916 THE AMERICAN MINING CONGRESS Certificate of Membership - Organized July of 1897 ◆ Incorporated May 11th, 1903 - "An Organization Devoted to the Upbuilding of the Mining Industry". AMC, which was initially known as the International Mining Congress, drew its members from operators, owners, prospectors, and miners. According to my research this was presented by the California Chapter, to M. H. Whitttier, on August 1st, 1916. He was also one of the directors of the organization. Mr. Whittier entered the oil business with Burton E. Green, under the firm name of Green & Whittier. Their first drilling operations were confined to the Los Angeles Oil Field and were quite successful. These were some of the first oil wells in this important district. As other companies moved in to tap this rich oil field it became crowded and they moved their operations to the Kern River Oil District near Bakersfield, California. James F. Callbreath, secretary.

Large, shiny-gold seal. This certificate is quite large and did not fit entirely on my scanner - Measures about 15 x 12 inches. ***This is a rare personal item from an important figure in the early American oil industry. In my research I couldn't find even one similar document! Price - $285

⚓ 1874 CONSOLIDATED HIDDEN TREASURE COMPANY - Incorporated December 31st, 1872 ◆ Extremely rare stock certificate issued to company president M. R. Cheever for 10 shares valued at $5,000 each. ($50,000) This is the only certificate I have ever seen with such a high par value. 2,000 shares were offered by the company. Office at San Francisco, California. What immediately jumps out at you is the early sailing ship in the upper-left. This company was formed to explore the Pacific islands for shipwreck treasure. Another smaller, but detailed vignette on the left side shows an Eagle resting on a pillar, holding a bunch of arrows. A ribbon around the pillar reads: "ELDORADO". Pickax & shovel beneath.
