HOMESTAKE MINING COMPANY STOCK CERTIFICATES - Lead, South Dakota - Black Hills
This is what the very first certificates from the Homestake Mining Company looked like. They were small-sized and looked quite different from later issues. It is estimated that only about 500 were ever issued and few survive today. Issued on July 11th, 1878 for 30 shares worth $100 each. WHITE WOOD QUARTZ MINING DISTRICT - LAWRENCE COUNTY - DAKOTA TERR. printed at top. This certificate is no longer available for sale but worth showing since many collectors have never seen one.

I have an extensive selection of Homestake Mining Company stock certificates to offer.... probably a better selection of early ones than you will find anywhere else. The list below includes some notable signatures as well. You are sure to find something of interest from this famous Black Hills gold mine. The mine is located at Lead, South Dakota and is no longer producing gold. (In the early days it was known as Lead City) For those of you who may be interested, Lead is just a few miles from the town of Deadwood.
All of the stocks on this page are in nice condition. Showing scans of each one on this page would be impractical so if there is something you would like to see I would be happy to send you scans via email. Feel free to ask questions.......
Two examples of the early black & white issue dated 1878 and 1882 - Background printing reads 100,000 SHARES. LOCATION, WHITEWOOD MINING DISTRICT, LAWRENCE COUNTY, DAKOTA TERRITORY. (An interesting note: The earlier ones on this list say "WHITEWOOD MILLING DISTRICT" at the top)
