Large 100 share stock certificate issued to G. M. Foresman. Signed by Letson Balliet as company president. Mr. Balliet was a newspaper man from Des Moines, Iowa who managed to swindle thousands of dollars from investors by promoting and selling stock, but never actually operating the mine. When authorities finally went to check on the operation, they found it was just a hole in the ground filled with water. In its earlier days under different ownership, in was reported to have produced $700,000 in gold. The White Swan Mine vignette on the certificate is based on an actual photograph taken during those better times. Center vignette shows the Oregon Ore Reduction Works and the Powder River Electric Light & Power Co. on the right. Beneath the steam locomotive on the bottom border it reads: Montana, Oregon and Pacific Railroad. Signed by K. G. Shea as asssistant secretary. Office apparently at San Francisco. Rare Western History!   SOLD
