Johnson, manager. Employed 70 men. The bituminous coal was good quality and used in the local trade centers for steam purposes. Gallatin County. Office at Bozeman, Montana. Main office at Butte, Montana and a branch office at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Printed by the Republic Bank Note Company of Pittsburgh.   Price - $120

Rare and beautiful stock certificate highlighted with shiny copper and silver colored inks. Only example I have seen. Unusually large corporate seal punched into the right side. Issued to N. Knutson for 125 shares worth $2 each. This early Cascade County, Montana mine produced silver ores as well as gold in quartz. Looks even better in person. Great name for a mine!   SOLD

Here is some info I found about the company:
The Boston & Montana GMC was about one mile from the town of  Whippoorwill. It was apparently a very rich gold mine. The ore vein was 20 feet wide in places. L. R. Nettre, manager and H. W. Child assistant. Three of the names written on the certificate have the last name Child. The company had an office in New York and Helena, Montana.

The original lode claims were in the St. Regis Mining District, Mineral County, Montana. Claims included the Foch, Montana-Missoula, Buck, Buck Fraction, White Tail, Grouse, Bluebird and Snow Shoe.   Price - $56.00

Shares were valued at $10.00 each. The left side reads: MINES, (GROUP) 3 MILES FROM HELENA. This certificate is complete... it did not fit entirely on my scanner. Unissued. (1890s)   Price - $85.00

1880s PENN YAN MINING COMPANY - Incorporated (in 1887) Under the Laws of Montana - Operated at Wickes, Montana. Jefferson County. All of you coin collectors out there will appreciate this stock certificate. A full-color vignette shows gold and silver coins that were in circulation during this time period. It is rare to find currency on early mining stocks. Shares were valued at $5 each. Office at Helena, Montana. Unissued but signed by Henry H. Hill as president. The property was sold by the county sheriff in 1891. (Dated 188_ on reverse)   Price - $85.00
